The Niguel Retreat

Laguna Niguel, CA.

Sited along the 13th hole of one of Orange County's premier golf courses, this project transforms a once-unused corner of the clients’ yard into a destination for wellness and gathering. A new dining area gives the clients a place to host a sauna session and an outdoor meal. The sauna itself is sized to comfortably fit up to eight people, and also leaves generous space for the client to perform mobility and stretching exercises. The sauna’s design echoes the same modern architectural language as the existing home while it asserts its own quiet presence and elegance.

The material palette celebrates the primal elements of wood, stone, and fire. Mahogany, chosen for its rich color, durability, and warm aroma, adorns all interior surfaces and complements exterior architectural features. Bands of luxurious terrazzo tile from Concrete Collaborative draw upon the green hues of the surrounding grass and trees, and the Huum Hive heater provides the highest quality heat and steam, immersing sauna bathers in the colors, smells, and textures of nature.
